SPIPA Workshop and Public Event

On January 14th and 15th 2019, a workshop and a public event under the framework of the Project Strategic Partnerships for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPIPA) was organized together with the EU delegation and Tsinghua University in Beijing. During the two day event, the first SPIPA event taking place in China, a delegation from the EU Commission introduced the EU long-term strategy, a vision for climate neutrality in 2050, and engaged in a dialogue with Chinese experts.

During the expert workshop and the public event, the delegation from the EU Commission had the chance to learn more about China’s long-term low-carbon development and transition. Furthermore, they shared experience and insights into the developments of the EU and China’s long-term strategies, especially in the key sectors of energy, transport, industry and the role of land and agriculture. Discussions touched on issues of investment, technology, growth and development, the role of citizens and social fairness to ensure a just transition.

Megan Richards, Director for Energy Policy stated, “The EU is keen to share our approach and engage with other countries. We can work together with China on making the de-carbonization pathways a reality.” Read More
