Strengthened control over plastic pollution

In January 2020, the NDRC and MEE jointly issued The Opinion on Further Strengthening Control of Plastic Pollution. The document outlines general policy guidelines and regulatory needs in order to improve the way China deals with plastic waste. In particular, it envisages increasing separate waste collection and recycling, and calls on the public to regard plastic as a resource rather than waste. In addition, the Opinion strongly promotes degradable plastics, however without providing any further details on a recognised definition or standard qualities.
