Study for Xintai’s energy transition and further studies

Based on the integrated energy concept for Xintai city, which was created in the previous phase of the Sino-German Climate Partnership (see IKI China Newsletter of April/May), the project is now conducting a study and action plan on the implementation of recommendations on heating made in the integrated energy concept in the rural areas of Xintai. The focus lies on measures that are economical and actionable in the short term. On the 2nd of July the first results of the study were presented by Jiashu Consulting in an interim workshop and report. The report summarized four representative counties’ heating sources and conditions and proposed different clean heating technologies and heating plans for each county. Besides of city officials of Xintai, German experts from the Fraunhofer Institute will evaluate and improve the implementation plan. Jiashu Consulting will integrate the opinions of all parties and presumably complete the study by the end of September. A conference on the results will be scheduled in October.

Two more studies will soon be conducted by the project and its partners. In the beginning of August, the managing director of the AG Energiebilanzen, Dr. Hans-Joachim Ziesing, will start a study with a detailed and easily understandable description and explanation of the German energy statistics system. The purpose of sharing the German experience on energy statistics is to support the improvement of the Chinese energy statistics system.

Presumably from September on, the project will work with experts to develop an indicator system which enables municipalities to measure their progress on the local energy transition and climate change mitigation. This will enable municipalities to adjust their plans and strategies accordingly and support the national level in monitoring and evaluating the status and efforts of municipalities on low-carbon energy transition, which is crucial for reaching national low-carbon development goals.
