German experts recently joined two additional Special Policy Study (SPS) research groups of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

Mr Stephan Contius, Head of Division IK I 2 in the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), joined the newly founded SPS group on Green Finance as an international core expert. This SPS group will focus on conservation finance and is set to provide policy recommendations for the upcoming 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 15). At the same time, Mr Contius maintains his role as a special advisor to the CCICED.

Furthermore, Mr Ulf Jaeckel, Head of Division G II 2, BMU, became an international core expert within the SPS group on Green Transformation and Sustainable Social Governance, which will conduct research on the development of a national strategy for sustainable consumption and production. This research will be closely linked to the development of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

The CCICED was established in 1992 as a unique high-level international and interdisciplinary advisory body which serves as a platform for Chinese and international experts to collaborate and provide policy recommendations to the Chinese Government. On behalf of BMU, the Sino-German Environmental Partnership II project (SGEP) manages the German contributions to the CCICED and supports the participation of both experts in the SPS’s research.
