A call for more action on integrated climate risk management at the National Low Carbon Day 2019

June 19, 2019 – Nanchang – The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Jiangxi Provincial Government jointly organized the 7th National Low Carbon Day Major Event in Nanchang. The theme of this year’s Low Carbon Day is “Low-Carbon Action, Defending Blue Sky”. The National Low-carbon Day falls on the third day of the National Energy Efficiency Promotion Week in June every year, a campaign in China to raise public awareness of energy efficiency and promote green lifestyles.

Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of the MEE, pointed out that progress has been made including significantly-decreased carbon intensity, continuously-increased non-fossil energy and forest stock, promotion of climate adaptation, and international cooperation on climate change. It is hoped that the whole country will jointly adopt the low-carbon concept and contribute to the protection of the ecological environment and the promotion of green low-carbon development.

In the afternoon, the Workshop of Sino-Swiss Adapting to Climate Change in China (ACCC) hosted by the Swiss Development Agency (SDC), discussed the importance of climate adaptation and the urgency of the issue. The GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) promotes international cooperation on climate risk management jointly with the Chinese and Swiss government.
