Closing Workshop on Trilateral Cooperation on Climate and Environment

On September 29, the closing workshop for the first phase of the Sino-German cooperation on climate change and environmental protection with third countries was held online. Two expert teams led by Prof. Imme Scholz (German Development Institute) and Prof. Chen Minpeng (Renmin University) presented the joint study conclusions and recommendations focusing on trilateral cooperation potentials, knowledge gaps, and action proposals to both ministries. Mr. Stephan Contius and his colleagues from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and Mr. Chen Zhihua from the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) reviewed the joint report and set common stones for furthering this cooperation. The GIZ presented the work plan for the second phase of the cooperation starting later this year. One goal is to identify a possible common approach with relevant standard criteria for Sino-German trilateral cooperation on climate change and environmental protection with third countries based on the results and findings presented at the closing workshop in September and additional expert exchanges. When the BMU and MEE agree upon the standard criteria, a trilateral cooperation concept will be jointly developed with the support of political, implementation partners and the project team.
