The Meeting to Commemorate the 2020 International Ozone Day in China was held by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) on September 16, with the theme “Strengthen the Supervision and Management of Montreal Protocol Implementation and Build a Long-term Mechanism for Implementing the Protocol”. Mr. Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of MEE, attended and addressed the meeting.
The meeting was held via video conference. The meeting was attended by more than 200 people from international agencies and bilateral and multilateral organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the World Bank and GIZ, as well as member ministries of the National Leading Group for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, related departments and bureaus of MEE, ecological and environmental departments/bureaus of all provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities and domestic research institutions, industrial associations, enterprises, as well as China Implementation Expert Panel.
News Network (XIN WEN LIAO BO) broadcasted the meeting and reported that China fulfilled the Vienna Convention’s relevant requirements and the Montreal Protocol on the Ozone Layer Depleting Substances. After joining the Convention, China has phased out more than 280,000 tons of ozone-depleting substances and made significant contributions to ozone layer protection and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
