Updates on the German contribution to the CCICED

In October and November, most Special Policy Study (SPS) working groups of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) have started their new phases and convened inception meetings. The Sino-German Environmental Partnership project (SGEP) participated in the inception meetings of the following SPS with German participation:

  • SPS Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Conservation (28.10.) with the participation of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN);
  • SPS Green Finance (29.10.) and SPS Green Transition and Sustainable Social Governance (01.11.), both with the participation of the German Environmental Ministry (BMU);
  • SPS Climate Change (10.11.) with the participation of GIZ;
  • SPS Green Technology (13.11.) with the participation of the German Federal Agency for the Environment (UBA). During the inception meetings, Chinese and international experts discussed the research topics, work plans, and task divisions.

In addition, the SGEP project supported Prof. Dirk Messner, president of UBA, in his role as the German CCICED Council Member.

On December 09th the SGEP participated in a CCICED high-level roundtable in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. During the event which took place under the heading “Innovative Cities and Greater Bay Area Green Development”, experts from several SPS shared research findings and discussed various aspects of green urbanization in China. Dr. Christian Stärz, director of the SGEP project, discussed with the Word Economic Forum the scope of the joint work plan for the SPS Green Technology.

Virtual seminar for the preparation of a sustainable COP

As a follow-up of the Sino-German Workshop on Green COP held on  October 28, 2019, the Environmental Partnership Project organised a virtual seminar on the preparation of a sustainable COP for the members of the Chinese Committee for the preparation of the CBD COP-15 on the 9th of March. The opening speech from German side was held by Ms. Inka Gnittke, Head of Division – International Cooperation on Biodiversity and CBD National Focal Point (BMU).
