COPA Global representative visited China and exchanged with key partners

A representative from the Climate and Ozone Protection Alliance (COPA) Global, Ms. Malin Emmerich, visited China from April 7th to 13th, 2024. It was her second visit after the one in 2023 together with project director Ms. Ellen Michel. Her itinerary included a series of key engagements to support COPA in China, starting with the participation in the China Refrigeration Expo (CRH2024), where she attended sessions on green and low-carbon refrigeration technology and best practices in the service sector. At the event, she introduced COPA’s activities in China to the audience. Subsequently, a meeting with UNDP China was held in Beijing, furthering the Alliance’s collaborative efforts.

After the conference, Emmerich had an on-site visit to a car maintenance service provider’s workshop in Tianjin who pioneers in the recovery of refrigerants in the process of repairing the cars. This visit aimed to investigate potential improvements in refrigerant recovery during the car repair process, in cooperation with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd (CATARC). The exchange sought to explore more possibilities for mitigation in this field. A video showcasing the refrigerant recovery process during maintenance was recorded and can be viewed here.

On April 10,  the “Meet & Greet COPA in Beijing” event was held, where COPA’s work was further presented to members and partners involved in ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) banks management. They all gathered for this informal exchange, facilitating broader networking opportunities.

Malin Emmerich’s trip concluded with a return to Frankfurt, reflecting a week of intensive professional interaction and networking in the refrigeration sector. The work of COPA in China continues to move forward.
