German-Chinese exchange advances solutions for renewable grid integration

From 14 to 16 September 2026, German and Chinese experts met in Nanjing and Liyang, Jiangsu Province, to exchange experience on integrating renewable energy into power systems. Organised by GIZ with Southeast University and Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, the programme combined site visits with a workshop on grid planning, digitalisation, storage and system flexibility.

The visits offered insights into Jiangsu’s emerging new power system. At Infypower‘s Nanjing headquarters, participants explored photovoltaic-storage-dc applications and EV charging solutions that enhance grid flexibility. Discussions with Nanjing Luculent Smart Technology highlighted how digital energy management supports companies as systems grow more complex. In Liyang High-tech Zone, the Near-Zero-Carbon Scenario Innovation Centre demonstrated how renewables can be linked with industrial development and regional planning.

The workshop brought together practical perspectives on the integration of renewable energy, with discussions covering power system planning, grid digitalisation, energy storage, sector coupling and system flexibility.

The exchange directly advanced the joint project “Supporting Jiangsu and Sichuan in Renewable Energy Grid Integration – Policy and Mechanism Research”, in which Southeast University, Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory and Energynautics compare regional experiences in China, Germany and Europe to identify best practices on policy and market mechanisms. The findings will inform continued cooperation on green and low-carbon power systems. The project is supported by International Climate Initiative (IKI).
