MEE acknowledges Germany’s support in building the Chinese national ETS

During the opening speech at the launch event of the online trading of the national ETS in Wuhan on 16 July, MEE Party Secretary SUN Jinlong thanked GIZ China for the congratulatory letter sent to MEE in June for the launch of the ETS.

During the opening speech at the launch event of the online trading of the national ETS in Wuhan on 16 July, Mr SUN Jinlong, MEE’s Party Secretary appreciated GIZ China for the congratulatory letter in June for the launch of online trading in China’s national ETS. In the letter, Mr Thorsten GIEHLER,  Country Director of GIZ China conveyed congratulations to the MEE on behalf of GIZ for the launch of online trading in China’s national ETS, stressing that it is a strong signal for carbon pricing around the world. The letter also expressed willingness to continue the long-standing Sino-German cooperation regarding emission trading.

Following the opening ceremony, Dr Alexander Fisher, Director for the Sino-German Cooperation of Climate Change of GIZ China participated in a panel discussion in Wuhan at the first international conference to promote the 30-60 target.

Industry-Related N2O Mitigation Closing Workshop

On 7 June 2023, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) organised the closing workshop of one cooperation project on mitigation of industry related N2O. The cooperation is part of the project “Sino-German Cooperation on Emissions Trading Systems, Carbon Market Mechanisms, and Industry-related N2O Mitigation.”

GIZ and NCSC Jointly Host Capacity Building Trainings on Industry-related Nitrous Oxide Emission Mitigation 

In November and December, 2022, GIZ and NCSC hosted two capacity building training sessions under the guidance of the Department of Climate Change (DCC) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE). The virtual trainings provided an overview of the German experience of mitigating N2O emissions from the industrial sectors and relevant policies for similar mitigation in China.
