The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) of the People’s Republic of China issued the Action Plan for Plastic Pollution Control of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

On 15 September, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China (MEE) issued the Action Plan for Plastic Pollution Control of the 14th Five-Year Plan, which promotes plastic alternative products. By 2025, e-commerce shall no longer utilize secondary packaging. In addition, the plan proposes that by the same time, the plastic pollution control mechanism will operate more effectively in the whole chain of governance. In terms of recycling and disposal, cities at the prefecture level and above shall have established a system for the sorting, collection, transportation, and treatment of domestic waste according to local conditions. According to the Action Plan, the efficiency of plastic waste collection and transfer has been greatly improved, and the national urban domestic waste incineration capacity has reached about 800,000 tons per day. The amount of waste directly landfilled has been greatly reduced; the recovery rate of the agricultural film has reached 85%, and the residual amount of film has achieved zero growth across the count.
