Pilot Project on Climate Change Education in Jiangsu Province Launched

The launch ceremony for a pilot project on climate change education in Jiangsu Province was held on 11 June 2021 in the Wujin District Green Building Industrial Cluster Area of Changzhou. Representatives from the Jiangsu Ecology and Environment Department, the GIZ Jiangsu Project, the Changzhou Education International Exchange Association, SinoCarbon Education Consulting Co. as well as schools of Nanjing, Suzhou, Yangzhou, and Changzhou cities participated the event.

The pilot project is initiated by the Jiangsu Ecology and Environment Department, implemented by Beijing SinoCarbon Education Consulting Co., and supported by GIZ. It will involve Nanjing Fangxing Primary School, Changzhou Xinghe Experimental School, Suzhou Xinghai Primary School, Wuxi Binghu Experimental School, Hohai University, and Changzhou Engineering College. Jiangsu Province will initiate the education on climate change by designing an appropriate curriculum with local characteristics and gradually integrate it into daily teaching.

During the ceremony, Ms. WANG Hua, Division Chief of the Jiangsu Ecology and Environment Department, named the specific requirements for this pilot project. She emphasized that education is key for addressing climate change in the future and for realizing global sustainable development. Education on climate change will play a crucial role in cultivating climate talents with a global perspective. Afterwards, the SinoCarbon Education Consulting Co. introduced their implementation plan and discussed the curriculum development and organization of events with the experts.

Extension of Jiangsu Project Phase III

The “Supporting the Low Carbon Development of Jiangsu Province Phase III” project has been extended on a cost neutral basis to 30 April 2023 to finalise all indicators for achieving its overall goal. The extension application was approved officially by BMWK on 1 February 2023.
