Tongji University and Shenzhen Bus Group visit Jakarta for knowledge exchange and technical discussions on sustainable urban transportation development

As a follow-up exchange to a workshop on municipal-level spatial planning and implementation exploration in Xiamen in December 2025, representatives from Tongji University, together with Shenzhen Bus Group and the Urban-Act China team, visited the Special Capital Region of Jakarta on 27 and 28 January 2026. The visit aimed to enable in-person exchanges with officials from the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the TransJakarta team to explore low carbon solutions and digitalisation of public transportation.

During the visit, the following topics were discussed:

  • Digital-supported sustainable urban mobility planning;
  • Low-carbon urban transportation solutions based on Jakarta’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) development;
  • Digital solutions and electrification transition of conventional bus systems;

Through technical discussions, experience sharing, and site visits to selected BRT pilot projects and sustainable urban mobility initiatives in Jakarta, the engagement enhanced the mutual understanding of current practices, challenges, and potential areas of collaboration in advancing sustainable urban transportation. The visit serves as an initial input for future dialogue and cooperation, based on further discussion and mutual agreement among the stakeholders involved.
