Meeting with the German Embassy at the GIZ office in Beijing

On 12 November, the ETS & N2O project received three guests from the German Embassy: Hendrik BARKELING, Head of the Economic Department, Ole GROGRO, Deputy Head of the Economic Section, and Miriam GUTZKE, Environmental Officer. From GIZ side, SGCCC Coordinator Dr Alexander FISHER and the ETS & N2O project team participated. The team presented the background of the bilateral project and its progress and answered questions regarding the Chinese ETS, the reduction of non-CO2 emissions, achievements, and challenges in the implementation of the project, and further cooperation with China.

During their presentation, the project team referred to the long-standing and close cooperation on emission trading between the People’s Republic of China and Germany: High-level officials from China appreciated the support and active engagement of the cooperation and confirmed the valuable contribution to setting up the Chinese national ETS. On several occasions, both sides have reiterated their interest to further deepen cooperation on the topics of carbon pricing policies and non-CO2 mitigation.

Study tours to Europe strengthen exchange on carbon markets and ETS

To enhance policy dialogue on carbon markets between China and Europe and to support the development of China’s national Emissions Trading System (ETS), GIZ organized two study tours to Germany and European Union institutions in October and November 2025. Tailored to the interests of policymakers and research institutions, the tours focused on ETS and advanced monitoring technologies.

Industry-Related N2O Mitigation Closing Workshop

On 7 June 2023, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) organised the closing workshop of one cooperation project on mitigation of industry related N2O. The cooperation is part of the project “Sino-German Cooperation on Emissions Trading Systems, Carbon Market Mechanisms, and Industry-related N2O Mitigation.”
