Changde: Sponge City Construction

Changde is a city in the northwest of Hunan Province. Here the change of extreme precipitation events has been significant in recent years – heavy rain and rain storm events increased. By applying institutional mechanism and system construction, Changde actively carries out Sponge City construction and adaptation to climate change action. The financing mechanism combining internal collection, loan and crowdfunding provides sufficient funds for Changde’s Sponge City construction. The city was in 2015 selected to be among the first set of pilots for Sponge City construction. (Available only in Chinese)
