Research Project on Green Logistics Development and Green Packaging Application of Nanjing Intra-city Express Service Launched

GIZ and the research team of Jiangsu Zhiqiaotong Engineering Co. organized the launch ceremony for a research project on Green Logistics Development and Green Packaging Application of Nanjing Intra-city Express Service on 16 September. Relevant officials from Nanjing Municipal Postal Administration attended the meeting.

The goal of green logistics is to achieve a cleaner environment and to make the best use of logistical resources. Some harmful effects from logistics on the environment are supposed to be avoided in the process. In March 2019, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), together with other 23 ministries, issued the Opinion on Promoting High-Quality Development of Logistics to Form a Strong National Market. Here, the support of green logistics was particularly proposed in article 14, emphasizing that green logistics should be an entry point for the development of both upper-stream and down-stream green supply chains. Green logistics and green packaging should not only be the focus of logistics enterprises, but also of government departments in charge of monitoring traditional logistics enterprises, internet sales firms, and consumers.

Mr LIN Daojun, Director of the Nanjing Municipal Postal Administration, confirmed the significance of the project and spoke about source reduction, joint delivery, and rural delivery from the perspective of industrial chains.

In the next step, the research team researchers will carry out a field survey that will aim at working out more systematic and operational solutions to provide policy support to local governments.
